...more than someone who plays songs. A great DJ is the "Master of Ceremonies."
A commanding presence with a loud, clear voice is important.
He needs to operate under the pressure that is sure to come up at any event... while keeping things sounding good and running smooth.
A good disc jockey knows how to "read" the crowd, to know what kind of music is working and what isn't that particular night, and is prepared for any type of crowd and style of music.
Most important, he needs to provide a great time for your guests!
Jack has been a professional disc jockey for over 25 years.
Starting at the age of 18 at one of the smallest stations in America, Jack worked his way up to some of the largest including KQRS, KDWB and KSTP in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota.
He has also been a radio announcer in Green Bay, Wisconsin, Anchorage, Alaska, Modesto, CA, Rochester and St. Cloud, Minnesota, and since 1999 he has been one half of the Jack and Melissa Show on Z-99, Bemidji, Minnesota.
Jack has worked in literally every radio format: Rock, Top 40, Country, Adult Contemporary, and Talk, and has done hundreds of personal appearances, has worked as stage MC, club DJ, Wedding DJ, live remote broadcasts, charity events and public speaking.
Jack is considered by many to be the ultimate "musicologist" in all types of music.
In addition to his live radio work he has performed as a guitarist with Dare Force, Nick St. Nicklaus of Steppenwolf, Fragile and more recently with the Bemidji State Jazz Big Band. He also led his own band "The Jack Hicks Band" culminating with a performance at Moondance Jam. His music has been featured several times on the nationally syndicated "Blues Deluxe" radio program.
No matter what the event, the crowd or the type of music, Jack can handle it with ease!
